Bad weather cancels Cook Co. evictions this week
As I wrote about yesterday, the weather outside is frightful. And when the weather gets frightful, the circuit court’s general order tends to turn off the eviction spigot. And in response, the Sheriff has updated his website. If you look at yesterday’s post, you will see that the Sheriff’s website indicated that “pursuant to court order, all residential real estate evictions shall cease effective 12-18-14 thru 1-5-15”. That has been replaced with the following (see highlighted area):
As you can see, the general order is cited for the cancellation. This is not referring to the general moratorium, but the directive that evictions are suspended in harsh weather. So, the cold weather has brought a reprieve until no sooner than 1-12-14. A quick check of the 10 day weather forecast shows the predicted temperature for next Monday as 28 degrees, so there is a chance that there will be evictions carried out next week. Until then, stay warm.
