Call to Cook County Landlords time to act on Criminal Background Screening
Yesterday, I posted about the Cook County Joint Housing Ordinance. Today, the Neighborhood Building Owners Alliance issued a landlord “Call to Action” related to the proposed interpretive rules that are under consideration by the Cook County Commissioners. Oftentimes, landlords ask me “what can I do about all this legislation that points in favor of tenants and against landlords”. The only real answer is to get involved and get active in landlord advocacy. This is one of those opportunities.
The text of the call for action is as follows:
The rules committee is holding a hearing on the proposed rules for the Just Housing Ordinance September 4 at 9:30 a.m. in the 5th Floor County Board Room at 118 N. Clark St., Chicago, IL 60602.
The NBOA has stated that “This is our last best chance to lessen the severity of Rules that will seriously impact our ability to run criminal background checks. Please offer this issue your time and consideration and take action today.” They suggest that you call or email members of the rules committee or sign up to provide testimony at the hearing on September 4, 2019.
